IMPULSE

(Imparting Motivation Programmes to Uplift Learner through Sensory Experiences)

Mental retardation is not a desease, it is a deficiency due to birth or severe deseases. Mental retardation refers to significantly sub avarage general intellectual functioning, resulting in or associated with concurrent impairements in adaptive behaviour, and manifested during the devolopmental period. Accoding to IQ test mentally retarded were classified as mild (55 - 70),moderate (35 - 54), severe (20 - 34) and pro found (below 20). Causes for mental retardation in broad sense were parental, perinatal and postnatal.

IMPULSE-(A PROGRAMME TO IDENTIFY & TO ENCOURAGE THE ARTISTIC TALENTS OF CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS) TOOL FAMILIARISATION WORKSHOP

Mentally retarded children were not able aquire routine childhood experiences which a normal child easily came through. Children are self guided to music, drawing, painting, constructive art and acting. If we substanciate such experiences to an intellectually challenged child, he or she is able to maintain day to day life. It can also develop learning skills and a capasity to adapt with society. More over he/she can identify the creative spot which he/she have.

Kozhikode DIET decided to conduct an experimental research to find out the scope of art as a motivating in the devolopment of intellectually challenged children. DIET have a force of resource teacher working in secondary section. So it is easy to handle such an experimental study with the said man power. Even though DIET wants a personalized experience to move to concept formation. A try out was conducted in 2012 november. DIET faculty meeting of June dezine time schedule and mode of reasearch, it was approved by PAC.
